Facebook request cost NC woman hundreds of dollars

Pitt County, NC -
Accepting a friend request could cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Here’s how it works, a person claiming to be a Facebook administrator sends you a friend request. Once you accept the request, the person sends you a message saying you won the Facebook lottery. The person will email you telling you to contact FedEx delivery online to claim you money. The catch is you have to pay $350 in shipping and processing fees to get access to the money.

One Pitt County woman says she was skeptical at first, but decided to still send the money after speaking with someone claiming to lawyer.

The woman says after losing hundreds of dollars she wants to warn others.

"Don't befriend them, don't friend them. Just ignore it, let it go. Like I said I feel like the whole thing was a scam," said the Pitt County woman.

The con artists won’t just claim to be Facebook administrators they will also pose as your friends. They do this by setting up fake Facebook accounts with your friend’s pictures and then messaging you about the lottery winnings.
