Hendersonville officer stabbed, suspect killed

Posted: Updated:

Police in Hendersonville say one officer has been stabbed and his partner shot and killed the suspect.

Police say two officers responded to a sexual assault call at a downtown apartment late Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief Herbert Blake said Sgt. Kenny Hipps was stabbed in the abdomen. A K-9 officer with Hipps then shot the suspect. Forty-six-year-old Adrian Eugene King died after being shot.

Hipps was treated at a hospital in Hendersonville and then transferred to Mission Hospital in Asheville. Blake says Hipps is expected to recover.

The other officer was not hurt.

The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
