COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Escaped Columbus prisoner Avery Javon Kirksey has been recaptured and is back behind bars, the Muscogee County Prison Warden Dwight Hamrick announced late Tuesday afternoon.

The Georgia Department of Corrections' Fugitive Squad captured Kirksey after they jointly took over the investigation along with the Corrections Department's Marshall Service Monday evening.

On June 11, Avery Javon Kirksey escaped from a prison work detail off of Amber Drive near Kendrick High School, Hamrick said. Kirksey was seen walking away from the site. Prison officials started looking for Kirksey Friday before handing over the investigation Monday

Hamrick was not able to immediately provide details about where and how Kirksey was found.
