BIRMINGHAM, AL - The 2014 Alabama Primary Runoff Election is over, and the stage is now set for the November general election.

Here’s a quick summary of the results from some key races.

6th Congressional District:

Gary Palmer beat Paul DeMarco taking home 64 percent of last night’s vote. Palmer will now face Democrat Avery Vise in November.

Jefferson County Commission District 1:

Incumbent George Bowman won last night’s election with 59 percent of the vote over Earl Hilliard Jr. Bowman says he hopes continue his fight to lower the sewer rates, level the playing field in Jefferson County and fight for the important issues of people in District 1.

Jefferson County Commission District 2:

The runoff results in this election are still too close to call. Incumbent Sandra Little Brown and former Commissioner Shelia Smoot are both holding on to 50 percent of the vote. Both Brown and Smoot are awaiting the absentee ballot totals.

Blount County Commission District 3:

Dean Calvert beat Pat Hyde in the Blount County Commission District 3 election after receiving 62 percent of last night’s vote.

Secretary of State:

John Merrill from Tuscaloosa clenched the GOP nomination for Secretary of State. Merrill received 53 percent of the vote over Reese McKinney.

Amendment One:

Alabama voters have approved a constitutional amendment that will allow cotton farmers to vote to make a fee mandatory that they have been paying voluntarily on each bale of cotton.
