COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Muscogee County School District end of course test  (EOCT) results are in, and school officials say the show significant improvements in several areas.

"Our students and school communities are commended for their hard work toward achieving full option graduation" said Superintendent David Lewis.

The Muscogee County School District shows gains in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics focus areas. There are also notable gains in Biology with a 5 percentage point increase and Physical Science with a 13 percentage point increase.

"We are pleased the EOCT results continued the upward trend of improvement this past year that revealed district increases in five of seven comparable areas and met or exceeded state averages in six of eight areas," said Superintendent David Lewis.

End of course tests are offered in 9th grade literature and composition, American literature and composition, analytic geometry, coordinate algebra, biology, physical science, United States history, and economics/business/free enterprise. In 2011-2012, the EOCT became Georgia's high school accountability assessment as part of the College and Career Ready Performance Index, which aligns with Georgia's state mandated context standards and include assessment of specific content knowledge and skills. The assessments provide diagnostic information to help students identify strengths and areas of need in learning, therefore improving performance in all high school courses. EOCT also provide data to evaluate the effectiveness of classroom instruction at the school, system and state level.

With the implementation of the Georgia Milestones Assessment System in 2014-2015, the end of course exams will be part of a new consistent testing program across grades 3-12. The improved alignment aims to further advance student growth with more seamless feedback. For more information you can visit www.muscogee.k12.ga.us.
