State of Tennessee sets up daycare inspection report database

Posted: Updated:

With just a few clicks you can now find out if your child's daycare has ever been cited by the state.

On the Tennessee Department of Human Services' website you can search by county, and by zip code and see a list of any violations.

It will show from anything from a hand washing violation to lack of supervision.

Cherokee Christian Learning Center in Johnson City has no past violations, and the highest rating of three-stars, but its director, Eddie Brittian says he's not happy about the database.

He said since there's such a wide variety of violations it might hurt daycare's enrollment numbers even if they have a minor offense.

"It's becoming harder and harder to run a daycare center and its put some out of business, last year was the first time ever that there are more daycares that went out of business than opened," Brittian said.

The Department of Human Services says each childcare center gets between four to six unannounced visits each year.

TO see violations, once you click in to your county, find the daycare you want to see and click in to the column "compliance history."
