Ayden leaders take some heat as they try to tackle flooding issues

Posted: Updated:
AYDEN, N.C. -

The Town of Ayden heard from frustrated residents as they held a special meeting Thursday night to discuss concerns about flooding and storm water infrastructure.

The Board of Commissioners voted to spend $110,000 to solve the problem.  The money will go to drainage ditches they will dig in three of Ayden's most flooded areas. They are the Montclair Estates, McCary Street, and First Street neighborhoods.

Still things got heated as people expressed anger at the commissioners for not fixing the problem sooner. Residents say the flooding and damages has been an issue for years.

Town Mayor Stephen Tripp says they promise to fix the problem but says that will take time.  Though they promised to spend the money, commissioners do not know where it will come from. They'll decide that in early August.
