PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

One man is dead and a female is injured after a shooting at Carriage Hill Apartments in Phenix City, police say.

The call came in around 2:30 pm Saturday afternoon. Phenix City Police Lieutenant Steve Nolin tells News 3's Naomi Keitt a family member, who was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, called authorities saying they thought the man had shot his wife inside the apartment.

When police arrived on scene, they found the front door open and the woman at the bottom of the stairs with an apparent gunshot wound to the back of her head. EMS transferred the woman to the hospital where family members tell News 3 she is in stable condition.

Authorities then searched the apartment and found a man deceased in the upstairs master bedroom. The man appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police say.

News 3's Naomi Keitt spoke to the woman's daughter on scene. The daughter, who lives in the home with her mom and step dad, says they were in the process of moving out of the apartment. She says they had to be moved out by Sunday. She says her step father was upset that he wasn't moving with them.

Police are still working to determine what actually took place in the shooting, but do believe the husband and wife were the only ones involved.
