Auto insurance group offers discount to drivers in South Carolina that install text blocking devices.

ATLANTA, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Good2Go®, specialists in minimum coverage auto insurance, announced that their Cell Phone Safety Discount will now be available in South Carolina. Customers will receive 5% off bodily injury, property damage, and collision coverage per vehicle for installing a device that blocks distracting cell phone functions such as text messaging, email, and Internet browsing. Full details are available at www.good2go.com/cell-phone-safety-discount.html.

Eligible drivers can receive this discount by simply installing a qualifying text blocking device in their vehicle and providing a copy of the receipt as proof of purchase via email, fax, or postal service. Text blockers are hardware/software that disable certain cell phone functions such as texting, email, and Internet browsing while a vehicle is in motion. Only essential call functionalities are permitted such as 911 emergency calls.

In June, South Carolina became the latest state to ban "text-based communication" while driving. This includes text messaging, instant messaging and emailing. Texting while driving in South Carolina is a primary offense and carries a fine of $25 for a single infraction. This ban took effect immediately; however, law enforcement officials were instructed to only issue warnings for the first 180 days of the new ban.

Some exceptions to the law include: if the driver is parked, at a stop sign or red light, using a GPS or hands-free wireless device, texting for emergency assistance, using a digital dispatch system, or performing duties as a public safety official.

Good2Go® supports South Carolina's efforts in protecting the roads from distracted drivers. Good2Go® launched the Cell Phone Safety Discount to help save lives and encourage others to fight against distracted driving. In addition to stricter state laws and increased fines, Good2Go® believes in rewarding safe drivers for taking the extra step by installing a text blocking device and making the roads safer for everyone.
