Finebaum appears in Columbus, predicts Tide to win National Championship

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

National sports radio host Paul Finebaum made an appearance in Columbus on Friday, promoting his new book.

The book, titled My Conference Can Beat Your Conference: Why the SEC Still Rules College Football, discusses the conference’s unprecedented success in football.

With the death of the BCS, Finebaum thinks the new four-team playoff will further prove the SEC’s superiority.

“I think you'll see the Big 10, I think you'll see the Big 12, I think maybe someone from the ACC, they'll be eliminated quickly because they really don't belong in there,” Finebaum said. “I think that's why the SEC will do quite well because the SEC is used to it. Every week in the SEC, you have big games."

Finebaum went on to say he thought Auburn would still beat Arkansas even without Nick Marshall starting, saying, “Jeremy Johnson is easily capable of beating Arkansas.” He also went on to make predictions for Georgia’s and Alabama’s seasons.

“I think in Georgia’s case, it will come down to one game, at South Carolina, the second game of the year,” he said. “Right now, I would favor South Carolina a little bit.”

As for the Crimson Tide, he had a much loftier prediction.

“I think Alabama will win the West,” he said. “I think Alabama will win the SEC, and quite frankly, I think Alabama will win the national championship.”
