Columbus police officer attacked in Smiths Station again

Posted: Updated:
SMITHS STATION, Ala. -

A Columbus police officer says he was stabbed Wednesday morning by the same men who attacked him back in June.

The officer, whose name is not being released at this time, was in uniform and was on his way to work when he was flagged down by a stranded driver near the intersection of Lee Road 303 and Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station. As the officer tried to help, he says a man stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife. The officer says the suspects fled in a red Crown Victoria sedan. While the officer was not seriously injured, deputies say family members took him to a local hospital to get checked out.

This same patrol officer was attacked outside his Smiths Station home on June 18. As WRBL News 3 reported, the officer was attacked by two individuals dressed in all black. The officer reported he was getting something in his car when he heard a voice call out for "help" in his yard. The officer told authorities he walked out to see where the voice was coming from when he was hit in the back of the head, knocked down and the two men then beat him. The officer told investigators the men neither said nor took anything. He was treated for minor injuries to his head and arm after the June attack.

Anyone with information related to the attacks is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff's Department at 334-749-5651.
