Alabama AD Battle, former QB Wilson visit Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Alabama athletics director Bill Battle and former quarterback John Parker Wilson were in Columbus on Monday to speak to the Chattahoochee Valley chapter of the Alabama Club.

Gymnast Kim Jacob attended as well.

Both Battle and Wilson were optimistic for the Tide’s chances in 2014.

“I think they’ll make it into the playoffs,” Wilson said. “I think they have a real good chance. I went out and saw them practice, they looked extremely hungry. I think they've got the depth, the talent, to go out there and get it done."

Battle was a bit more measured, saying that while he was excited about the playoff system, he liked the BCS. He thinks Alabama has a chance to be there in the end, though.

“I think we’re going to have a good team,” he said. “If you’re going to win it all, you have to have the ball bounce your way some, you have to be lucky with injuries, and a lot of things have to fall into place."

As for on the field, Nick Saban still has not named a starting quarterback. He did say that whoever started on Saturday against West Virginia, either Blake Sims or Jacob Coker, may not play the entire game.
