Outdoor Weekend Events April 13-15

The weekend weather starts on a high note but spotty showers move in late Saturday afternoon and increase in coverage Sunday morning. As long as lightning holds off, there are still lots of great outdoor events happening around the area!

Bring a chair or blanket and listen to some free tunes at Uptown's Friday Night Concert from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. est.

Lee County Humane Society's Family Fun Day kicks off Saturday morning in Floral Park. Check out the grand opening of Opelika's Dog Park and enjoy food, fun and adoptable pets!

Learn what all the buzz is about at Oxbow Meadows' Jr. Beekeeper Workshop Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. est.

Gaze up at the stars and learn about our night sky with the Coca-Cola Space Science Center at Astronomy Night in Providence Canyon Saturday evening from 8:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. est.

And this weekend's highlighted events is Paddle South. Check out elite athletes take on the best rapids in the South as they compete for the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships! Then enjoy live music and dancing at the Paddle Party and official After Party at the Loft!

"This is the perfect place to watch your first freestyle kayaking competition cause the wave is big and fast and we've got many of the nations best here ready to prove what they've got," says USA Freestyle Kayak Committee Member Stephen Wright.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A package bomber who created a wave of terror across the South in the 1980s is scheduled to be executed in Alabama. The execution is set to happen nearly 30 years after Walter Leroy Moody Jr. killed a federal judge with a bomb mailed to his home. The 83-year-old Moody is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Thursday. Moody was convicted of killing Judge Robert S. Vance.
