Sarah Gray Barr is a junior at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Majoring in both Journalism and Peace, War, and Defense, Sarah Gray looks to have a career in broadcast reporting.
At school, she is a producer and anchor for Carolina Now, a student-run broadcast that airs twice a week. At Carolina Now, she writes scripts, assigns stories, organizes live shots, and periodically anchors the show.
During the initial COVID-19 outbreak, Sarah Gray was part of the news team that continued to produce coverage of the school’s decisions regarding the disease.
Besides broadcast news, Sarah Gray is also a staff writer for the sports desk at The Daily Tar Heel, a school newspaper.
In her free time, Sarah Gray dedicates her time to community outreach with A Moment of Magic, an organization that takes college students to volunteer at children’s hospitals dressed as popular fairytale characters.
She is also a member of UNC’s Women’s Club Waterpolo team and the Gamma Lambda chapter of Phi Mu. As a military child, Sarah Gray grew up in the Columbus and Fort Benning area. Sarah Gray spent time overseas in Germany as a child.
News is important to Sarah Gray because it reminds her of her travels in Europe and demonstrates global interconnectedness. At WRBL, Sarah Gray is excited to learn more about the news industry and producing. She looks forward to crafting and honing her broadcast skills at WRBL this summer!
