Bryan says Odom was wearing a snorkel mask.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Divers are back in the water searching for a man who may have fallen into the Chattahooche River.

25-Year-Old Thomas Odom was last seen Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 when a witness said he went under and didn’t come back up.

Local kayakers and spectators watched the search and say they can’t believe this happened.

“It’s something you hear about happening every where else in the world I mean you never think it would happen here in your home town especially some where you try to come have fun at. It just sucks honestly.” Cameron Burke – Spectator

To help with the search Georgia Power is managing the flow of the river so divers can search more easily.

“There’s a lot of water in the base right now and so we could only hold it in our small lakes for just so long but we’re working with them on trying to manage the flow of the river to assist with the search and rescue effort as best as we can.” Robert Watkins, Georgia Power

Georgia Power tell News 3 it’s something they’ve had to do before.

“Whether it’s people that have jumped in on purpose or whether it’s someone that has gotten in trouble we usually have to stop it here a couple three times a year.” Robert Watkins, Georgia Power

Bystanders say situations like this are causing them to be more careful the next time they’re in the water.

“You know be a little safer make sure you’re not doing anything especially not to just depress somebody always keep it on the safe side because stuff like this could always pop up.” Wyan Dutton, Spectator
