ATLANTA, Ga. — The FBI warns the public about a lottery scam targeting people in Georgia.
Agents say they have been receiving reports of advanced fee scamming involving the Mega Millions Lottery.
Scammers contact people and try to convince them they have won the jackpot and all they have to do to claim it is wire money to the scammer in order to secure their claim on the winnings.
The scammers are attempting to authenticate their scam by using FBI and FDIC stationary when contacting potential victims.
The FBI asks anyone that has been approached by these scammers to call them immediately.
