UPDATE 9/12/23 p.m.: Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry has confirmed the cause of death for 26-year-old Darell Hunter.

According to Sumbry, Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 p.m. from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sumbry says Hunter’s body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery, Alabama for an autopsy.

UPDATE 9/12/23 2:43 p.m.: The Phenix City Police Department shared new details on the law enforcement presence near Pine St.

Police responded to a duplex at the 1300 block of 17th Ave. just after 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, police say they found 26-year-old Darrell Hunter Jr. dead inside the home.

Phenix City Police Captain Skip Lassiter confirmed to WRBL the death has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Phenix City Police Department.

UPDATE 9/12/23 2:19 p.m.: The scene at Pine St. and 17th Ave. remains active.

The Russell County Coroner is present as of about 2:20 p.m.

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — There is law enforcement presence at Pine St. and 17th Ave. in Phenix City.

Several markers are on the ground and several police units are on the scene. The area is currently blocked off with crime scene tape.

Detectives and the DA are also present.
