President Donald Trump nominated Colonel Lorna Mahlock for Brigadier General of the Marine Corps.

If approved, Mahlock will be the first black female to serve in that capacity. Mahlock is currently a Deputy Director at Corps Headquarters in Washington.

She previously served in Okinawa, Japan where she supervised 1,300 troops.

Women make up just eight percent of the Marines.
