An Alabama inmate was stabbed to death on Sunday and several others were injured following a series of fights.
According to a new release from the Alabama Department of Corrections, 29-year-old Vaquerro Kinjuan Armstrong was stabbed to death at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.
Armstrong, who was serving a 22-year sentence for a first-degree robbery conviction, was found with multiple stab wounds following a fight with another inmate.
He later died.
The release said correction officers reported a second incident around 9:30 p.m. in another part of the prison after a second fight broke out among inmates. One suffered multiple stab wounds and is listed in critical condition. Two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The prison was put on lock down while the Department of Corrections investigates the incidents.
According to the Associated Press, eight inmates have been fatally stabbed in Alabama state prisons since January.
