Alabama’s largest dry city passes alcohol sales

HARTSELLE, Ala. (AP) — Voters in the northern Alabama city of Hartselle – Alabama’s largest dry city – have approved alcohol sales.

News outlets report unofficial results from Tuesday night’s election show voters in the Morgan County city approved alcohol sales with 3,791 votes in favor and 3,032 against.

This is the fifth time the city has voted on alcohol sales since 2002. Two years ago, legalized sales failed by 231 votes.

City officials estimate alcohol sales could generate as much as $400,000 a year.

Hartselle now joins Decatur and Priceville as wet cities in dry Morgan County.
