AUBURN, Ala. – Tuesday is Make Music Day across the country, and Tim Spicer of Spicer’s Music has some big plans to celebrate the day.
Spicer says no city in Alabama has ever taken part in the event, but says Auburn will change that on Tuesday. Spicer says that he and others figured that trying to break a world record would be a good way to celebrate Auburn being the first city in Alabama to participate in the event.
Spicer and others will be attempting to break the record of the largest rock band. The current record is at 520 people.
“This is a pretty cool opportunity for us to reach people we normally wouldn’t have come into our store or be involved in music, Spicer said. “We have people coming to just sing on the chorus. We have an orchestra section, a brass section. We even have a bagpipe player who’s coming to play. So, the idea is to get as many people coming together and play music at the same time, and that’s what we’re passionate about.”
The event is at 6 p.m. central on Tuesday. They will be performing a rendition of Sweet Home Alabama. The Gay Street Parking Lot will be closed for the event. City of Auburn | Gay Street Parking. No later than 3 p.m. central, the Auburn Police Division will close Gay Street between Glenn Avenue and Magnolia Avenue. The roads will be closed until the event is over and breakdown of the event is complete.
