Family of 5 loses everything in trailer fire on Lee Road 240

UPDATE:

2:00 P.M. — A double-wide trailer fire early Wednesday afternoon now leaves a family of five with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Smiths Station Fire Chief Joe Walden says the emergency call came in around 12:20 p.m. No one was home at the time of the fire.

A husband and wife and their three children, ages 15, 12, and four, lived in the now destroyed home. Chief Walden says they did not have renter’s insurance.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

LEE COUNTY, Ala. — A News 3 crew is on the scene where fire trucks can be seen responding to what appears to be a home in the 1200 block of Lee Road 240.

A reporter says smoke is visible from the main road, but first responders are keeping onlookers well back.
