Sheriff Jay Jones named Alabama Sheriff of the Year

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones was named Alabama’s Sheriff of the Year by his peers at the Alabama Sheriff’s Association.

The honor was awarded during the Alabama Sheriff’s Convention Tuesday night for his outstanding professionalism, dedication and leadership while serving and protecting his community.

Sheriff Jones began his career with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in 1975 while a student at Auburn University and was first elected Sheriff in 1998 and currently serving his fourth term.

Jones also serves as ad adjunct instructor of Criminal Justice at Auburn University and Southern Union Community College in Opelika.
