2 firefighters injured in training exercise in Opelika

OPELIKA, Ala. - Two firefighters have been injured in a fire training exercise in Opelika.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Thursday on Andrews Road.

One firefighter was transported to Columbus while another was transported to Birmingham.

The injuries sustained were serious according to Opelika police. Smoke inhalation and possible burns are some of the injuries.

Opelika police are assisting in the investigation with the State of Alabama Fire Marshal's Office.
