Alabama man looks for compensation following 30 year wrongful conviction

Anthony Ray Hinton is asking for $1.5 million

BIRMINGHAM, Ala - Anthony Ray Hinton spent 30 years in prison for the murder of two men in Birmingham.

Hinton has since been released as the state determined there was no evidence linking him to the crimes. The Equal Justice Initiative, a Montgomery based non-profit, helped Hinton get his conviction overturned.

Hinton is now seeking $1.5 million from the state of Alabama as compensation, but the state has stalled on making a decision.

State Senator Clyde Chambliss believes the issue of Hinton's compensation will be brought up again during the next legislative session.
