UPDATE: Coroner releases identity of 1-year-old child killed

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry has released the identity of the 1-year-old child as Cataleya Brooks

PHENIX CITY, Ala. - Phenix City police have arrested a man after a 1-year-old child dies.

Phenix City police say they were called to a home on Summerset Drive in Phenix City back on February 21 around 4 a.m. about a death of a child. The child was sent for autopsy at the Alabama Department of Forensic Science (ADFS) in Montgomery

February 22, police spoke with the medical examer at ADFS and were advised that the autopsy revealed the child's death was due to blunt force trauma.

The 1-year-old's father was identified as 26-year-old Sha'Quel Brooks and brought in for questioning regarding the incident.

Brooks is currently at the Russell County Jail for murder.

Phenix City police and Russell County Department of Human Resources continue to investigate for the possibility of additional charges.
