Brookstone and Columbus girl’s tennis honored as WRBL Athletes of the Week

State championships are rare… And this week, Carlos William’s got to honor two state championship teams, the Brookstone girls tennis team and the Columbus high girls tennis team with our WRBL co-athletes of the week award.

We’ll start at Brookstone where the lady cougars tennis team beat stratford academy to win the program’s 11th state tennis title.

Brookstone girls tennis coach Mary Lynne Cumiskey has been a part of all 11.

Cumiskey and her team put in a lot of hard work to win this years title.

“We knew we had a lot of talent and we knew we could make it to the finals. we just weren’t sure how we were going to do. iIve been real proud of them all year,” she said.

And so we say congratulations to the Brookstone Lady Cougars tennis team, our WRBL co-athletes of the week..

Now the lady blue devils of Columbus high also won a state championship bringing home the class 5A state title.

The state championship was the first one ever for the Columbus high girls tennis program.

Coach Mikelanna Hill says she’s extremely proud.

“They love that their the first people to be able to say they won a state championship. and it’s really cool to know that forever we’re going to be the first girls team to win a state championship at Columbus high school,” she says.
