Carlisle bridge renamed after fallen hero

News

The community remembered a fallen marine’s life and sacrifice at a ceremony for a bridge being renamed in his honor.

The bridge carrying East High Street over Letort Spring Run was renamed the Marine Lance Corporal Edward Rykoskey Memorial Bridge.

Rykoskey went missing in action during the Vietnam War. He died in 1966 while warning his fellow patrolmen about an approaching enemy force.

He had just graduated from Carlisle High School two years before and had only a few months left of his tour when he was killed.

His remains were never recovered.
