Columbus Lions crush Lehigh Valley in season opener, 50-18

The Columbus Lions crushed their National Arena League semifinal opponent from a year ago in their season opener to the 2018 season. The Lions defeated the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 50-18 at the Columbus Civic Center.

Lions head coach Jason Gibson praised his defense in the win, as the Lions held the Steelhawks out of the endzone until the game was well out of the reach of any comeback from the visitors.

Quarterback Mason Espinosa, who led the Lions to the NAL championship game in 2017, was more than efficient as Columbus built a substantial lead and relied on their defense to shut the door on any comeback.

In a rematch of the 2017 NAL championship game, the Lions will host the Jacksonville Sharks on Saturday, April 21 at 7 pm.
