CPD makes arrest in terroristic threats against Northside High School

COLUMBUS, Ga — Police say a Northside High School student has been arrested after making a social media post threatening the school.

A police report says officers were alerted by a concerned citizen about a Snapchat post and responded to a home on Timberdale Court just before 11 p.m. Monday night.

Major J.D. Hawk confirms to News 3 a 17-year-old suspect was taken to Muscogee County Jail after threatening a shooting.

“It appears after interviewing him, he meant the post as a joke,” Hawk says. “He will face charges, we take these things very seriously.”

A News 3 reporter at Northside High School reports a police presence on the campus making surveillance rounds.

Officers on the scene says they are taking the necessary precautions to ensure student safety.

The suspect will be in recorder’s court Wednesday at 8 a.m.
