LEE COUNTY, Ala — A man is in jail on a $150,000 bond for allegedly killing his girlfriend, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department confirms.

The Sheriff’s office says 49-year-old Don Albert Smith faces charges for the death of 47-year-old Mickie Chiffone Mack.

As News 3 reported, Mack was found dead at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday inside her house on Lee Road 4 near Loachapoka.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says Mack had several stab wounds on her and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:35 p.m.

Family members tell police Mack and Smith were dating at the time of her death. The sheriff’s press release says Smith lives only a few houses down from Mack’s home where she was found.

The release goes on to say Smith was arrested at his home Wednesday at around 11 p.m. It says the motive for the stabbing is still unclear.

Harris says Mack’s body is being taken to Montgomery for an autopsy. The case remains under investigation.
