UPDATE 04/27/2022 5:35 p.m. – The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a man who was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon.

According Deputy Coroner Charles Newton, John Allen Bishop, age 50, was pronounced dead at the hospital on April 27, 2022, at 1:39 p.m.

The shooting happened on Olde Towne Drive, near Miller Road, according to officials with the Columbus Police Department.

Newton tells WRBL News 3 that Bishop’s body will be sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Bishop was first reported missing by Columbus Police on April 26, 2022, and last seen in the area of River Road.

After that, Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman announced on social media that Bishop was located by deputies on April 26, 2022, though the circumstances of that incident have not been expanded upon at this time.

CPD’s Robbery and Assault Unit is investigating the shooting.

Police have not released information about a suspect.
