UPDATE 2/28/23 9:34 a.m.: Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan released the victim’s identity in a deadly shooting that took place on 35th St. and 5th Ave.

Bryan says Jeffery Randez Smith, 36, died of a gunshot wound. Columbus police say Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon pronounced Smith dead at 10:25 p.m. after EMS attempted to resuscitate him.

Smith’s body will undergo an autopsy.

The family has been notified.
