UPDATE 7/7/23 11:32 a.m.: Columbus police announced an arrest made in Thursday night’s Motel 6 shooting.
Jaboree Boone-Scott, 19, was arrested in connection to the shooting death of James Mitchell. He faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Boone-Scott’s preliminary hearing is set for Saturday, July 8 at 9 a.m. in Recorder’s Court.

UPDATE 11:13 p.m.: Columbus Police have released the identity of the victim involved in the deadly shooting.
According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, the victim, 47-year-old James N. Mitchell, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the Piedmont Emergency Room at 9:32 p.m.
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – The Columbus Police are investigating a shooting at Motel 6 on Victory Drive.
CPD says they received a report about the shooting at 8:58 p.m. At this time, police have not released the victim’s identity but have said the victim is a 47-year-old male.
