UPDATE (4:09 p.m.): One suspect, shot by Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, is in custody and another suspect, a juvenile, was apprehended by Muscogee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Columbus Police after a car chase that begin in Lee County raced across the Chattahoochee River and ended on Boxwood Boulevard in Columbus.
According to an afternoon new release from Columbus Police, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious activity call around 4:30 a.m. on April 28. Deputies found a vehicle matching the description given in the call. When deputies tried to make a stop, the vehicle fled.
Lee County deputies pursued the vehicle into Columbus, where the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Police Department were alerted to the chase. Before those Georgia agencies could join in the pursuit, the vehicle stopped in the yard of a private residence on Boxwood Boulevard. A juvenile passenger fled the scene on foot.
Police identified the driver as Marqueyvius Dozier, 18. Dozier had been shot by a Lee County deputy, though the news release does not specify when. Dozier was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment.
The juvenile passenger was captured by Muscogee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Columbus Police. The juvenile, who had been reported missing in March, was charged with obstruction of a police officer, a misdemeanor.
Dozier is charged with theft by bringing stolen property into the state. He also had three outstanding warrants for entering an auto and one for theft by taking, shoplifting, all felony charges. Police said Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies will obtain warrants for crimes committed in Alabama on both subjects.
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – Columbus Police confirm an early morning high-speed chase from Lee County ends in a Columbus neighborhood.
The chase ended in a residential neighborhood on Boxwood Blvd off Macon Road.
Columbus Police say two suspects are in custody.
