COLUMBUS, Ga.- Columbus State University students were uneasy when they found out that someone reported what looked like a gunman on campus.
Grant Blocher says he was in shock when he found out the news.
“I got notified via phone call that there was a suspect that was in the dorms and I attempted to go out of my room and there was a police officer out in the stairwell that told me I couldn’t leave,” said Blocher.
Other students were also surprised at the news especially since CSU is such a friendly school.
Jamal Thompson said, “It’s crazy because nothing bad is supposed to happen here because everybody is cool with everybody and everybody is friends. Why would someone bring a gun on campus?”
“I feel unsafe because where I come from there are guns around, but I was told this was a little quiet area so I wasn’t expecting this,” said Aaron Williams.
Deonte Cartson lives in Clearview Hall and he experienced everything first hand.
Police searched every room in and out.
Cartson says he’s happy everyone’s safe and hopes it stays that way.
“I hope it was false alarm and that it wasn’t really true, but if it is I hope everybody is safe and that they watch their surroundings. I also hope that he doesn’t come back to the school,” said Cartson.
