Fire marshal arrests Columbus man for alleged arson

COLUMBUS, Ga — A man is in jail for allegedly setting fire to his home Tuesday afternoon.

Columbus Fire Marshal Ricky Shores says 29-year-old Trent Romaine was arrested for arson after firefighters were called to his home at 2900 Florence Drive at around 2:33 p.m.

Shores says the home only suffered minor to moderate damage by the time it was put out, but that investigators “believe this was a set fire.”

An arrest report says Romaine confessed during the investigation.

The report says Romaine was taken to Muscogee County Jail at 11:23 p.m. He is due in recorder’s court Thursday.

Shores says the case is still under investigation.
