LEE COUNTY, Ala. – A former Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.
The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama says 39-year-old Kevin Taylor received child pornography between August of 2004 and October of 2015.
As News 3 has reported, Taylor was arrested back in November, accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12.
He was then fired from the sheriff’s office. Federal Attorneys say that case uncovered the evidence of child pornography.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says Taylor’s arrest is the result of a more than nine-month investigation.
Sheriff Jones says the sheriff’s office never received any complaints about Taylor up until November.
Sheriff Jones says the sheriff’s office works hard to be professional, and if someone does not live up to their code of conduct, they will not be a part of the sheriff’s office. He adds that this experience reinforces the stance the sheriff’s office takes when looking at individuals that want to become a member of law enforcement. He urges folks to not take the actions of one and place it on the whole group.
“I think it’s very important for us to reinforce to the public that if we have an individual who is not working to uphold the oath of office they took for public service, then we’re going to do whatever we need to do; find out what the facts are and take the appropriate action.”
