BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – A 6-year-old died the day after Christmas after Beaufort County officials found the child unresponsive in a Bluffton home.

Armani Roberts, known affectionately as “Ari,” died Dec. 26.

A spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department tells The Island Packet that the child had pulled a mylar balloon over her head, adding there was nothing suspicious about the death.

According to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), a corporal was first to arrive at the home on Quinn Court to a report of a child not breathing.

The corporal stated in the report that he found the child laying against the wall in the dining room.

“She had a balloon string coming out from under her,” he reported. “I pulled her away from the wall and began to administer CPR.”

According to the report, an officer arrived at the home with an AED. The device instructed no shock, and the officer and corporal continued CPR until EMS arrived to take further action.

After 30 minutes of continued chest compressions and aid from EMS, officials pronounced Armani deceased.

According to the report from BCSO, Armani’s mother and grandparent were home at the time of the incident.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office tells News 3 autopsy results are still pending.

6-year-old Armani was a first-grade student at Red Cedar Elementary. School officials say they will have extra counselors available when school resumes.

According to Armani’s obituary, funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 at Campbell Chapel AME Church in Bluffton. There will not be a public viewing.
