Officer involved in Cusseta Road high-speed chase placed on administrative leave


COLUMBUS, Ga. — The officer involved in Thursday’s high-speed chase on Cusseta Road near 27th Avenue has been placed on administrative leave, according to Columbus police.

The officer who has been with the Columbus Police Department for six years. Columbus police say the officer ran over 22-year-old Deonte Giles Thursday, after Giles led police on a high-speed chase. Giles then pulled a gun on another officer when the chase ended in crash.

Giles was wanted in a murder that happened on Ticknor Drive back in April.

The officer was placed on administrative leave per standard department procedure, as well as the pending conclusion of the investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
