Second suspect arrested in connection with murder after turning himself in

LaGrange police have arrested a second person in connection with the Feb. 9 murder of James Jake Ponder.

According to a press release from the LaGrange police, Omare Atcherson was arrested after he turned himself in to detectives on March 5, 2019. Travis McFarland was the first suspect arrested in the case.

Police say Atcherson was charged with murder, aggravated assault, criminal attempt armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes and participation in criminal street gang activity.

The murder took place on around Troup Street.
