Stacey Abrams makes a stop in Savannah to thank her supporters

Georgia

Former Democratic Candidate for Georgia Governor, Stacey Abrams, was in Savannah Thursday night as part of her post-campaign ‘Thank You Tour.’

The Georgia Native spoke to hundreds of supporters about the next steps in her political career and her fight against voter suppression.

“I’m here to say thank you for fighting with me, for fighting for me, but most importantly for fighting for yourselves,” said Abrams.

Abrams came to Savannah just two days after delivering The Democratic Response to the President’s State of the Union Address.

“We have a lot of work to do because Georgia did not have a fair fight. We didn’t have a fair fight because in the State of Georgia voter suppression is real,” said Abrams.

Her newest cause called, ‘Fair Fight’ was founded in response to her loss to Brian Kemp in November. The Secretary of State’s Office was accused of mismanagement and voter suppression.

“We had too many voters that voted in the last election but magically disappeared when they came into the polls. If we can’t register to stay on the rolls, then we can’t vote, but the second problem is having access to the ballot,” said Abrams.

Hundreds of supporters lined the Savannah Station to hear Abrams speak on her next steps in her fight for fair and free elections.

“I want her to stay here in Georgia and help us win the fight to end the rigged voting system that’s in Georgia,” said Ann Holtzclaw.

Others News 3 spoke with hope this isn’t the end for Abrams running potential.

“I honestly believe that with her and the backing that she has and by the supports that were here tonight we’re going to have a great country,” said Lynda Sams.

Abrams announced she intends to run again but says it has to be the right timing.

Savannah was the second stop for Abrams’ tour. She is expected to make stops in the Atlanta area next.
