COLUMBUS, Ga.- Halloween is just a day away, and the Columbus Police Department is encouraging parents and chaperones to take extra precaution while trick-or-treating.
This year Halloween falls on a Monday, which is a school night.
The Columbus Police Department advises parents and chaperones to take kids trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. to 8:30.
Major J.D. Hawk from the Columbus Police Department tells parents what they can do for kids to help reduce their risk of injury.
Police say always look both ways before crossing the street.
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them. At night wear reflective gear on costumes and always inspect the candy before eating it.
Police want to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings, travel in groups and most importantly, have a fun and safe Halloween.
