48th annual Bass Rodeo raises an estimated $2400 to send kids to camp

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) - The 48th annual Bass Rodeo will send approximately 48 kids to Camp Joy this summer through Valley Rescue Mission.

The fishing tournament took place on Lake Oliver today.  Organizers say at least 80 participants joined the tournament, raising an estimated $2400.

Anglers took to the water at 7 am Saturday, May 12, and came back in around 3 pm. Winners were then announced and prizes awarded.

"It was really hot out here today," said Tim Watson, President of the Georgia-Alabama Bass Club.  "But there was some pretty big fish caught. We had a 4.38 that won it."

The winning bass weighed just a little more than four pounds.

Winners received fishing supplies, cash, and other prizes.

All proceeds raised will be used to sponsor underpriviledged children to attend Camp Joy.  The camp is in Harris County and teaches children about nature and spirituality.

The Georgia-Alabama Bass Club sponsors the Bass Rodeo each year.
