7th grader wins award in tribute of late great grandfather

A local middle school student was presented with two awards in the 2019 Georgia Council for the Social Studies Fair.
 
Andres Urbina is a 7th grader at Veterans Memorial Middle School who focused his project on his great-grandfather Robert Murphey in Pearl Harbor. Urbina showcased his great grandfather’s experience on the U.S.S Missouri, his medals and letters he wrote to family members.
Urbina says though he never had the chance to meet his great grandfather, he feels closer to him more than ever.

“Of course he was at Pearl Harbor during the attack, but he was also at Tokyo Bay Japan under the surrender of the Japanese. I never got to meet my great grandfather or my got to meet her grandfather I just wanted to learn more about him and the things he has done,” Andres Urbina,  7th grader at Veterans Memorial Middle School.

Urbina was awarded “Best Primary Source” and “Best in Class 2” for his project.
