A Columbus church spends the weekend cleaning up damage from the tornado

Local News

Six days later and recovery efforts are still making slow but steady progress here in Columbus. A local church spent today serving those north Columbus residents who were impacted by the storm.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helped clean up four homes today by picking up limbs, chopping up tree branches, and getting the debris ready for pickup by the side of the road.

Jacob English says his church is always looking for opportunities to serve the community. He adds he knew clean up after the tornado wasn’t a task someone could do alone.

“Look around at the love of the community has and that we’re there with you and it could’ve been anybody so let’s go there and let’s help them out but definitely God is watching over you and look for those positive things because they’re always going to be there as well,” English said.

English says his church will have an abbreviated service at one of the homes they’re working on. Afterwards they plan to spread out throughout the neighborhood to continue cleanup.
