A Harris county teen plans to donate 2,500 shoes to those in need

Local News

Melissa Champion has a goal to donate 2,500 pairs of shoes to people living in poverty who may not have any shoes.

Champion says this is her third year doing the shoe drive. The first year it was with a school club, but Champion wanted to do her own outside of school and have people in the community donate as well.

Her goal last year was to to donate 300 pairs of shoes and she donated well over that with almost 2,000 pairs. Champion says she graduates next year but she plans to continue donating for many years to come.

“Well they go to Soles4Souls and what they do is, they get missionaries and they will go to people in South America, Central America, Africa and even in the United States to people who need them,” Champion said.

Champion is accepting all shoes of all sizes and she will be collecting shoes for the next couple of weeks.
