A partial government shutdown looms over the United States of America.
This year marks the first time in forty years the government has shutdown three times in one year. This current partial government shutdown impacts multiple agencies.
Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are either being furloughed or are working without pay. Presidents Trump’s incoming Chief of Staff says the partial government shutdown could continue until next year.
Meanwhile, some in the Republican party are calling out President Trump for not coming to an agreement to avoid the shutdown.
However, President Trump says he’s digging in his heels and not compromising over his promise to secure funding to build a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
According to Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer’s office, both sides remain very far apart toward reaching a compromise.
The shutdown affects about one-fourth pf the federal government, which includes many national park sites. For example, Jimmy Carter National Historic Site inn Plains, Georgia is shutdown as a result of the government closure.
