AAA Georgia stops in Columbus as part of “School’s Open – Drive Carefully”

Local News

The “School’s Open – Drive Carefully” campaign aims to promote safety for parents, caregivers and children.

As part of a statewide campaign, AAA Georgia made a stop in Columbus on Wednesday to share safety tips for drivers, bike riders and walkers. The auto club partnered with Muscogee County Schools officials, Safe Kids Columbus, and both local and state law enforcement to deliver their messages.

The Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Harris Blackwood told the crowd “school buses in Georgia transport more passengers on a daily basis than Delta Airlines.”

While the bus drivers in attendance were praised for their efforts of keeping kids safe, officials wanted parents, caregivers and students to better understand the potential dangers involving traffic and what they can do to keep children as safe as possible.
