The Lee County Coroner Bill Harris has identified the two deaths in the accident earlier Monday morning.
The driver was 27-year-old Thaddeus Freddie Bowman and front seat passenger, a 26-year-old Terraneka Shavon Harris.
Both victims were wearing seatbelts.
There were two other passengers in the back seat, a 24-year-old and 17-year-old that were related to Harris, the front seat passenger.
The 17-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center and then transferred to an Atlanta hospital after it was determined he suffered a cervical fracture.
The 24-year-old was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Columbus and treated and released.
The cause of the accident may have been due to fatigue and remains under investigation by the Lee County Coroner’s office and the Auburn Police.
Details regarding the traffic death accident on I-85 near Exit 50 on Monday, July 9, 2018, at about 6 a.m.:
A 2013 Ford Fiesta struck a 2018 Chevrolet 2500 pick-up truck in the rear while traveling in the northbound lane on I-85.
The Ford Fiesta carried four individuals from Duluth, Georgia. The car swerved off the roadway after the collision and struck a tree.
The driver, a 27-year-old male and front seat passenger, a 26-year-old female, suffered deadly injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
One of the rear seat passengers, a 24-year-old male, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center. The other rear seat passenger, a 17-year-old male, also suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to EAMC.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, a 52-year-old male from Tallassee, was not injured and released. The victims’ identities are not being released until next of kin have been notified.
The accident remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division.
